Medic First Aid: Advanced First Aid

Course overview

An advanced two-day programme for people who already have first aid skills. It provides refresher and advanced training in first aid response, life support and injury management until medical help arrives.

You practise the essential skills in small groups, with optional scenario-based practice.

10. Protecting the airway: recovery position
11. Breathing: ventilation mask and shield
12. Circulation: chest compressions
13. Initial assessment of an unresponsive patient
14. CPR for cardiac arrest
15. Sudden cardiac arrest: using an AED
16. Placing pads and basic AED operation
17. Troubleshooting messages and other AED considerations
18. Control of bleeding
19. Managing shock
20. Foreign body airway obstruction
21. Ongoing assessment
22. Warning signs of serious illness
23. The mechanism for significant injury
24. Specific first aid problems
